Poem: Wise Words Within
My personal processing of today’s world and the wisdom we most need within it to not just survive but thrive.
I want to write the words. To express and explain what all this means. To articulate what the anxiety is about. To make it all make sense.
But I can’t make sense of the nonsensical. I’m unable to articulate with anxiety. My expression exhausted, I cannot explain what I do not understand. I can’t seem to find the wise words within.
Instead, I am still stuck. Paralyzed and pondering the impossibility. Confused and confounded. How did we end up here? Which wrong turn did we take? Surely this reality isn’t really real? ———
What do we do when the words we hear Don’t match the intuitive sense within? When witty words say and sound safe, But buried beneath them lay all the lies. A tone of terror and a song of selfishness. A message shrouded in sweetness, meant to blame and shame. Silky smooth speeches used surreptitiously to scare and silence. Feelings that foster fear, fogged by floral fragrances. Pretty potpourri words powdered to protect and disguise the pursuit of power. ———
It’s incredibly confusing and confounding Disorienting, disturbing, and disconcerting. When we can’t connect what is said With what we think in our head. When we can’t outsmart What we feel in our heart When we can’t align what we hear With what we sense in our gut is clear ——— When what we see We feel differently Within our body A sense of sickness An ear of emptiness A touch of tension A nose of nausea A smell of suffering A taste of trepidation A mouthful of melancholy A sound of sadness The pressure of prickling pain. ———
What really is there to say? To write? How does one make a case for what’s right? Drowned out by the dark outside, Whilst struggling on the inside.
Maybe the message we need Isn’t one we need to read It isn’t a pretty speech Or one trying to teach or preach Instead it’s what’s within me The wisdom within only I can see. It’s what’s within you too The wisdom that belongs to you. Embedded in our bodies and brains Are insights and intuition That brings boldness and bravery. That cultivates curiosity and creates clarity. That fosters feeling, fellowship, fidelity. ——— With this wisdom within We can truly learn to listen Discover how to deeply detect and discern. And witness with a wider and wiser view.
Trust not just what you hear But what you feel in here For maybe it’s fear
Trust not just what you see But what you perceive and receive For maybe you grieve
Trust not just what is said But what you sense whilst it’s spoken instead For maybe your being misled ———
Listen first to the wisdom within Your own intelligence as your guide. The best answers they will provide. Connecting with your Compassionate heart, Creative mind, And courageous gut. Together collecting, combining, and aligning. To offer just what we need, as long as, we listen and don’t misread. When we all listen within, Everyone can win. ———
No matter what I say or do, Whether or not my words resonate with you It’s about what we know to be true. The wisdom within is yours too! The answers aren’t only mine They must come from all of humankind. Surely we must write and read, We must listen and speak, But we must also sense inside, What is truly wise.
I hope this poem evokes something within you. I wrote it in response to current events and my own struggle to share a wise response to them.
Instead of speaking of the events themselves, this poem ended up speaking more to my internal reaction to them. To what I noticed, felt, and sensed.
But most importantly, it’s meant to bring awareness to the necessity of accessing our inner human wisdom to navigate today’s world.
To check what we hear, read, and see against our internal embodied intelligences to deduce and discern accuracy.
To rely first upon the wisdom within- in a state of creativity compassion and courage - to guide our thoughts, feelings and actions.
In a world perpetually moving closer to total reliance on technology. Where those in power can control the flow of knowledge. The risk that we will become overly reliant on others and outsource our own understanding continues to grow.
The threat of those sources taking advantage of a trusting or ignorant population remains ever present.
Rather than limit power to those with perceived intellectual superiority, we must ensure knowledge remains ever more democratized. Every human, at a minimum, must be equipped to fully access, align and apply their unique innate human intelligence and share it with society.
The future of humanity quite literally depends on our willingness to combine the wisdom within all humans to solve the challenges of today.
Every human being has an innate right and access to this wisdom no matter their age, gender, race, religion, nationality, financiers, or circumstances.
No one can take your wisdom within from you. But, we can willingly relinquish it. We can allow our own ignorance, mistrust, and unwillingness to access it, to silence it and bury it within us.
To learn to ignore its messages and the unease in our gut. To deny its disease as warnings of harm to our heart. To trust and adopt the thoughts of others denying and suppressing what we think with our own minds.
Don’t relinquish your wisdom.
Hold onto it.
Cherish it.
Apply it.
And use it everyday to guide your life!
Always Evolving,
Jessica
